Primary Eye Care

An eye examination at Optimal Sight is more than just an eyeglasses check.  In addition to determining the best prescription for your new spectacles, the examination includes a complete eye health evaluation with screening for diseases like glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration.  At the end of your examination, Dr. Saeed will discuss the results of the exam and your options for vision correction including eyeglasses, contact lenses and laser vision correction.  If you have a medical eye problem like an infection or pink eye, Dr. Saeed will diagnose the condition and prescribe appropriate medication.  If you need an ophthalmologist for cataract surgery or retinal care, Dr. Saeed will coordinate your care with the appropriate specialist.

Your examination will include a careful assessment of your visual status to generate a spectacle prescription that will provide your best visual performance.  In addition to the traditional subjective refraction (Which is better, one or two?), Dr. Saeed uses the i.Profiler Plus from Zeiss to fully customize your eyeglass prescription.  The data from the i.Profiler is combined with the subjective refraction to create your unique i.Scription.  The i.Scription may then be used to order customized Zeiss spectacle lenses that provide the best possible image clarity and perception of contrasts in all visual situations.

Optimal Sight is proud to feature the optomap Retinal Exam as part of your comprehensive examination.  With the optomap retinal evaluation, the majority of the retina at the back of the eye is visible in one single image.  For many patients, selecting the optomap means that dilation of the pupils may be avoided while still allowing for an excellent view of the back of the eye.  Once the optomap image has been captured, it is stored in the computer for future reference.  "A picture is worth a thousand words" is very true when it comes to documenting the status of the retina from year to year.

Technology Integrated Practice

At our office we incorporate computerized technology to assist in the evaluation of spectacle prescriptions, peripheral vision, eye health and measurements in the optical dispensary.  Computerized examination instruments are used to supplement rather than replace personalized care.  With our computerized technology including our electronic medical records (EMR) software, we have been able to increase the time spent with Dr. Saeed thereby enabling us to perform a more thorough examination with more time for explanation of your results and recommendations to enhance your vision.

i.Profiler Plus

The Zeiss i.Profiler Plus is the newest computerized technology at Optimal Sight.  The i.Profiler is one of the data-gathering tests that the staff  perform before you are examined by Dr. Saeed.  The i.Profiler provides us with information about your spectacle prescription and the curvature of the cornea (front of the eye) which is needed for contact lens fittings.  The real value of the i.Profiler is the ability to measure higher-order aberrations that degrade the vision quality.  Higher-order aberrations are more subtle focusing errors that may affect visual quality, particularly when your pupils are large as when driving at night.

Eye doctors have been able to measure lower-order aberations for years.  Traditional methods of refraction measure whether you are near-sighted or far-sighted and whether or not you have astigmatism.  Until recently higher-order aberrations were only measured in laboratory settings.  The 1500 data points measured by the i.Profiler allow the traditional spectacle prescription to be fine-tuned to minimize the effects of higher-order aberrations on vision quality.  A traditional prescription is accurate to 0.25 diopters while your i.Scriptions is accurate to 0.01 diopter.  The i.Scriptions allows the best possible image clarity and perception of contrasts in all visual situations.  The i.Scriptions lenses enhance the overall visual performance including visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and depth perception, especially in low light conditions.  The i.Scriptions data is transmitted to a Zeiss spectacle lens laboratory where your customized lenses are manufactured.  Your i.Scriptions can only be customized using high qualtiy Zeiss ophthalmic spectacle lenses.

Optomap- Optos Daytona

Optos Daytona is the newest in ultra-wide field scanning laser technology to help in the diagnosing, analyzing, documenting and monitoring of ocular disease of the retinal and optic nerve. The optomap Retinal Exam produces an image that is as unique as your fingerprint and provides Dr. Saeed with a wide view to evaluate the health of your retina.

The retina is the delicate tissue lining the back of your eye.  It receives light through the lens in your eye and produces a picture which is sent to the brain, enabling you to see.  The optomap uses lasers to scan your retina producing a digital image of the back of your eye in less than a second, usually without having to dilate your pupils. The optomap view enhances Dr. Saeed's ability to detect even the earliest sign of disease of the retina.  Retinal and optic nerve diseases that may be seen on the optomap image include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and glaucoma.  Dr. Saeed will invite you to view your optomap images as she reviews them, allowing you the opportunity to see what your own retina looks like as she educates you about the health of your eye.  We recommend optomap imaging be performed for all patients at each comprehensive eye examination.  For more information, click here.

We use the Humphrey Matrix for visual field testing.  The instrument has proven performance in detecting early visual field loss, especially in glaucoma.  The Matrix is also used in monitoring the visual field over time when someone is diagnosed with glaucoma or suspected of having glaucoma.

After we have helped you select the perfect spectacle frame and make decisions as to which spectacle lenses are most appropriate for your prescription, it is critical to take accurate measurements to allow the laboratory to manufacture your new lenses to our exacting specifications.  To provide the highest level of fitting and measurement precsion, we utlilize the i.Terminal by Zeiss.  This computerized measurement system provides superior fitting accuracy for optimum progressive lens performance.  The i.Terminal, in conjunction with the i.Scriptions prescription from the i.Profiler, allows advanced progressive lens customization using free-form technology.

In addition to allowing us to provide precise measurements for the laboratory, the i.Terminal allows you to see yourself in frame options before making your final decision.  If you have a high prescription and have difficulty selecting a new spectacle frame because you cannot see what you are trying on without your glasses, we can photograph you in your frame options.  This allows you to put your glasses back on to view the new frames head-on, from the side to see the temple detail and even in split screen so that you may see how you look in up to four frames at once.  We want you to be confident that you have chosen the perfect frame for your face, your coloring, your personal style and your lifefstyle.

Dr. Saeed and her optician will recommend lens products to further customize your spectacles.  With the i.Terminal we can demonstrate lens features that have been chosen for you.  We can demonstrate how anti-glare coating, polarization or other features may enhance your vision and your appearance.
